In this video, see a scissor lift model created in Simscape™ and assembled from a set of adjustable mechanical parts. Because they are parameterized using MATLAB®, a MATLAB app can be used to adjust the design of the entire lift (length, width, and height) and all components will scale appropriately. This makes it possible to explore the full design space rapidly. An actuator attachment point can be adjusted automatically to assess the tradeoff of lower actuator force and larger actuator displacement. The mechanical model can be integrated with a hydraulic actuator model to test for integration issues. The scissor lift model can be driven around in various environments to test its maneuverability. Embedded code can also be tested using this model with hardware-in-the-loop testing by connecting the controller hardware to a virtual model of the scissor lift.
