How can I download matlab R2016a?

Click on your symbol in the top-right of this page, next to the telephone icon and click on 'My Account'. In your licencse list you should have a down arrow button for downloading. When you click this you get options for all the versions your license is valid for.

New licenses include provision to use all previous MATLAB versions.
However, institutions (workplaces, universities) can potentially turn off downloading of MATLAB, so if you buy a license for an institution or use a license for an institution, you might have difficulty accessing previous releases.

... provided that you are licensed for R2016a or later.
There are no trial licenses available for R2016a now, and R2016a is not free.
