what is the standard PC set-up for optimal performance

13 views (last 30 days)
Hello everyone,
I have a bit old PC setup with following setup
  1. Core i7-8700 @ 3.2GHz
  2. 16 GB RAM at a speed of 2666MT/s
  3. 256 GB SSD
  4. NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB
I have been trying to simulate and run simscape models but MATLAB kept on crashing. Does that setup okay for running high-fidelity simulations if not, what sort of updrades are we looking here?
Thank you and looking forward to your timely response.

Please send the crash log file to Technical Support directly using this link so we can investigate the cause of the crash. If possible please include the Simscape models you're trying to simulate and/or as much information as you can provide about what MATLAB was doing when the crash occurred.

Your current setup is quite decent, but high-fidelity simulations in MATLAB, especially with Simscape, can be very demanding.
  • Your i7-8700 is a solid CPU, but for high-fidelity simulations, a more powerful processor with more cores might be beneficial. Consider upgrading to a newer generation CPU with at least 8 cores, such as the Intel Core i9-11900K or AMD Ryzen 9 5900X.
  • While 16 GB is the minimum recommended for MATLAB, upgrading to 32 GB or even 64 GB can significantly improve performance, especially for large simulations.
  • Your 256 GB SSD might be limiting if you have large datasets or multiple applications installed. Upgrading to a 1 TB NVMe SSD will provide faster read/write speeds and more storage space.
  • The GTX 1060 is decent, but for better performance in simulations that utilize GPU acceleration, consider upgrading to a more powerful GPU like the NVIDIA RTX 3060 or higher
  • Ensure your cooling system is adequate to handle the increased load from upgraded components. A good quality power supply (650W or higher) is also essential to support new hardware.
