MRI Coil

Birdcage MRI coil

A birdcage MRI coil is a specialized radio frequency (RF) coil used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems. It consists of a cylindrical structure composed of evenly spaced conductive rungs (or rods) connected by end rings. This design allows the coil to produce a highly uniform RF magnetic field, which is essential for obtaining high-quality images. Birdcage coils are typically used for imaging the head or extremities and come in two main types: lowpass and highpass, each optimized for different frequency ranges. Their ability to provide homogeneous excitation and reception makes birdcage coils a popular choice for clinical and research MRI applications.
