What is the typical College Day like?
The typical College Day consists of presentations about the job and company, one-on-one interviews, and several opportunities to interact with engineers in the Engineering Development Group. All of your meals will be covered.
Below is the schedule of a typical College Day. Please keep in mind that this is subject to change. A detailed schedule will be provided when you arrive to the College Day.
8:45–10:00 a.m. Meet and greet, breakfast, and MathWorks presentations 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Technical or HR/manager interviews 12:00–1:00 p.m. Lunch with current EDG engineers 1:00–3:00 p.m. Technical or HR/manager Interviews 3:00–3:30 p.m. Product demos 3:30–3:45 p.m. Final closing 3:45 p.m. Hotel shuttle pick-up at MathWorks How many interviews will I have?
EDG candidates will typically have one-on-one interviews with at least three MathWorks representatives: a technical staff member, a technical manager, and a human resources (HR) staff member.
For the technical interview, what sort of questions should I be prepared to answer?
The topics covered in your onsite technical interview will be similar to the topics that were covered in your phone technical interview. Onsite technical questions will typically be more in-depth and may cover both undergraduate- and graduate-level material.
Please refer to your College Day email for more information on what the technical interview will cover.
For the interviews with HR and the manager, what sort of questions should I be prepared to answer?
These interviews will not be technical in nature. Their main purpose is to assess the nontechnical skills required to be successful in EDG and at MathWorks. Your interviewers will be asking about your past work or graduate school experiences to gauge your development in areas such as time management and teamwork. For example, they may ask for specific details about your contributions to a group project, or how you were able to make progress in your research despite a demanding course schedule. In addition, they will also be listening for why you are interested in a career at MathWorks.
How can I prepare for the interviews with HR and the manager?
To prepare for these interviews, you should start by learning about the company. You should focus your efforts on information about the culture at MathWorks and its mission and values. Think about specific examples of when you have demonstrated the core values in your everyday life. Finally, relax and be honest. A successful interview will feel like a conversation between you and the interviewer in which you are sharing stories about your past experiences.
What is the attire for College Day?
Although casual business attire is typical for a MathWorks employee, we recommend that EDG candidates dress in proper business attire for the interviews. As a general rule of thumb for any interview, it is better to overdress than underdress.
For my references, I cannot contact my most recent professor. Would previous professors, student advisors, and managers be sufficient?
Yes. The main requirement is that your references are from people who have supervised your work, and previous advisors and managers would make an ideal reference.
I am a vegetarian or have dietary restrictions. Will there be alternative options?
We do consider all dietary needs while choosing meals for the day. If you have any concerns, please email Judy Arciszewski at jarcisze@mathworks.com.

How will I get to MathWorks on Friday morning?
Upon arrival at the hotel, let the front desk know that you will be taking their shuttle to MathWorks on Friday morning. Please plan on being in the hotel lobby 10 minutes before the shuttle is scheduled to depart (shuttle will leave at 8:30 a.m.). Breakfast will be provided when you arrive at MathWorks.
I am staying for the weekend. What can I expect?
While there are no planned activities on Saturday, we do invite you to visit around Boston. We will provide you with some ideas of things to see and do, and the hotel will also have various recommendations.
Will I be reimbursed for any expenses occurred during my visit to MathWorks?
To assist with expense during your visit, a prepaid card will be given to you on the day of your interview. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Arciszewski at jarcisze@mathworks.com.
How will I get back to the airport after my stay in Natick?
You will take the hotel shuttle to Logan Express (about one mile from the hotel). The Logan Express shuttle will take you directly to the airport terminal you specify. A ticket will be provided to you during the closing on your College Day.
These details will be discussed in depth during the College Day.
