Data Type Exploration and Visualization of Signal Ranges

The Fixed-Point Tool provides features that can help you explore and visualize the effect of certain data type proposal on the behavior of the signals in your model. This analysis can help you optimize the choice of the fixed-point data type to minimize the utilization of resources such as RAM on the target hardware.

You can visualize how a certain signal range, based on testbench simulations, fits a proposed data type word length for your target hardware. You can use the Fixed-Point Tool to get a proposed fixed-point data type for each signal and understand how the proposed data type is influenced by other signals in the data type group in your model. This will allow you to explore trade-offs between specific data type choices for a more optimal fit. In addition, the visualization highlights overflows or underflows and further helps in debugging these issues as well as avoiding late-stage bugs on the target hardware.
