The MATLAB Python Engine raises an EnvironmentError if the python version is >=3.8. Why does the engine actively prohibit use with python versions >=3.8. What is MathWork's plan for releasing a MATLAB Python Engine for python>=3.8?
Edit: I just saw that >=3.8 is supported in 2020b, so the second question is answered.

Hello Malte,
As for your first question, when MATLAB Python Engine was developed, python 3.8 might not be released yet. Then it was not tested with python 3.8. To ensure MATLAB Python Engine works with the local python installation, a check is put in there to make sure python version < 3.8, because those versions were tested.
Thanks,
Yongjian
