making mancalla in a matlab gui

It's been a while sinve I've coded Matlab and have decided to make mancalla. I'm runnung into an issue early on with the error message, "Reference to non-existent field 'p1p1'." and the line of code that is having the issue is "p1p1 = str2num(get(handles.p1p1,'String'));". I've also used str2double. ant clues?

handles.p1p1 does not exist.
