Play an audio file with different volume

How i can write program to play an audio file with different volumes such that

• double the volume
• unchanged the volume
• half the volume

Use the sound function with the appropriate multiplicaiton factor. (Note, there is no guarantee that the result will not be clipped or otherwise distorted.)

Also see Play Audio for other options. (I am not certain if play automatically scales the output. I know that sound does not.)
