This message appears now on startup, sounds very serious, but gives no direction as to what to do. Any direction on troubleshooting is appreciated.

Did you move or delete a file or rename one of the Matlab directories?

Not to the best of my knowledge.

Did you create a file called startup.m? A file with this name on the Maltab path is executed on matlab startup.

I searched for startup.m and found that a 3rd party toolbox I installed called a function which called a function, etc. which generates the error. I have notified them about it. Thanks Jeremy!

How does one go abt reverting it back to normal?

I had the same problem which was solve by deleting those two files in my Matlab paths:

• pathdef.m
• startup.m

Maybe that information can help someone else.
