Switching branches in Github freezes Matlab

When I switch branches on GitHub while I have some scripts open in Matlab's editor, Matlab freezes indefinitely. The content of the said scripts differ between branches. I'm using r2019b. I didn't have this problem in r218b, the scripts used to update automatically when switched branches. Is there a way to fix this issue? I also tried closing the editor before switching the branch but that didn't solve the problem either (it would have been a very inconvenient get-around anyways)
