Is the Network License Manager Server Allowed on Public IP Space?

2 views (last 30 days)
I recently learned that my department will lose its current campus-wide license, and so we are choosing to go with a concurrent license server (Network License Manager).
Am I allowed to put the host on a public IP, or must it be internal?
Many thanks,
Louis

Yes, it can be on public IP. However, you can only serve members of your own organization (or perhaps some collaborators, when they are working with you on a project.) You cannot serve licenses to the general public.

Oh, wow that's great! Thank you for sharing that. This will be much less disruptive for off-campus users.
So they wouldn't have to physically be on the same network to use the license file if I were to use a public IP?

Correct.
I had mine on a public IP. On the other hand, I could firewall to block outside access.
At the moment I do not recall what authentication procedure is used for proof of identity.
