How to color a matrix based on the values in matlab?

I have a matrix of 9 by 5. I want to colur them in a table so that the higher values got red and the lowest got yellow. The intermediates are needed to be coloured with much less intense colours. So that i can just look into the colured table and can find the extreme values.

You can't alter the values from figure but you can alter the input "A" and then update the figure. If you'd like to alter a table that is embeded into a figure, you'd need to use a uitable (link below). But the process of coloring cells in a UI table isn't straightforward.

For heatmaps, the x and y tick labels are controlled by the propery "XData" and "YData" (unfortunately). Here's how to change the x and y tick lables.

There is still issue like with increasing number of matrix size, the value in the cell just disappeared.

As the size (# rows or columns) increases, the cell size gets smaller, and at some point, you can't fit in the text. It would be too cluttered and overlapping such that you couldn't read the numbers.

I also agree with Image Analyst.

Here are some possible solutions

1. just to expand the horizontal size of the figure.
2. rotate your matrix if there are much less columns than rows.
3. round your values so they only have 1 decimal place - that will make shorter strings.
4. just use the color bar to estimate the value of each cell.
