Can I disable update notifications

A recent announcement includes the following:

"Starting in October 2018, users will receive a notification on the MATLAB R2018b desktop when an Update is available."

But in most cases, users here will not have the permissions needed to actually apply any updates and so any notification to users simply leads to pointless support requests. Can this notification be disabled?

This seems like something which would be in the FAQ (https://www.mathworks.com/support/faq/mathworks-update-notifications.html) but as I write this I don't see a similar answer.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to turn off these Update Notifications, but we might consider adding such an option in a future release of MATLAB. See also:
