This is a very common way to model a specific part of a power system. Instead of needing to model in detail both sides of the power system, when all that is of interest is the interconnection, you can create an abstract model of both sides by using power sources at both sides of the transmission line. This allows for accuate simulations while also allowing the simulaiton to be must faster and easer to build.
