How to display multiple images side by side and on top/bottom of each other?

I need to display a single image four times in a 2x2 matrix (so four images total into a rectangle/square).

My code so far:

tallpic = imread (filename);

imshow(tallpic);

new_img1 = img(1:end, 1:2:end);

new_img1 = img(1:end, 1:2:end, :);

imshow(new_img1);

I know how to put 2 side-by-side using "imshowpair (A,B,'montage');" but I don't know how to put another one on the bottom/top.

Try to use subplot.
