How can detect note in melody?

Hi everyone, I am doing project to detect notes (do re mi fa sol la si) in easy songs like Christmas or old Macdonald. So, i need to detect when I cut note in melody (some note fast or slow). and then how to extract feature of note. hope your help. thank you
