If I wanna do this now in the editor, I need to put the cursor onto the variable in order to get this drop down menue containing infos (size, type etc..)

It's ok but as I work with 2 screens I have the editor left and the workspace right, meaning that I have always to look right and then find the variable in the workspace. I like the quick info you get putting the cursor onto it in the editor but for ergonomical reasons I want to use as less mouse as possible!

Click on the variable in the editor and type control-d. It will bring it up in the variable editor. Is that what you mean?

Instead of the mouse, use the keyboard to navigate the cursor so that it is within the variable you want to see the value(s) of. Then type control-d on the keyboard.

What should the shortcut do? Without pointing the mouse on the wanted variable, it is unknown, which variable you want to display. But if you point on the wanted variable, the information is shown already in the tooltip menu.
Maybe moving the workspace window beside your editor is a fast solution.
[EDITED] I can undock the command window and dock the editor and the Workspace browser into Matlab's mainframe. Maybe this is an option.
