How to extract character from license plate using MSER algorithm?

I am doing a project on Recognition of license plate based on character specific Extremal Regions.Does any one give me suggestions or any ideas for implementing MSER algorithm to extract the character from the image.I already try https://www.mathworks.com/examples/matlab-computer-vision/mw/vision_product-TextDetectionExample-automatically-detect-and-recognize-text-in-natural-images but it show an error too output arguments.
