Plot magnetic field distribution

Dear everybody, The figure in this question is basically a cross-section of a 3-D configuration. The y and z axis represent the position. In each position point, there is a 3-D vector of the magnetic field (Hx,Hy,Hz).
I knew that the colour of the figure is plotted by the absolute value of the magnetic field vector in each point and I think they use the surf or pcolor command. The rotation of the ellipses is the phase of the magnetic field vector.
Could you please suggest me how to plot the ellipses like this?
