nativemvm.dll: Can't find dependent libraries

I am trying to run the matlab api for java. I tried executing the example given here: https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/matlab_external/setup-environment.html but I run into the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2016b\bin\win64\nativemvm.dll: Can't find dependent libraries
