This:
plot(plist,ref(fcount,'x--':),plist,ref(fcount+1,'o:'))
is not the correct way to call plot. I think you want is something like:
plot(plist,ref(fcount,:),'x--',plist,ref(fcount+1,:),'o:')
If that's not it, explain with words (not code) what you're trying to plot and someone may be able to offer some guidance.

You need to use
hold on
between the two plots.
