reed solomon encoding for non birnary codes

if i have a picture then i converted it into bits, the bits then pass by channel encoder .. where two techniques are used, Reed solomon RS(255,223) and then convolutional code with rate=1/2 and without puncturing , could you help me with the part of the reed solomon please ?!
