Group EYE GAZE detection

I am working on a project to determine whether the students in a classroom are looking in same direction (at the teacher) or not. For i cropped eye of student , made a center line across it and determined whether iris is middle , right or left w.r.t that middle line , and then repeat it for other students. But results are not impressive. How shoud i approach the problem, yielding efficient and valid results.
