MathWorks does not have concrete plans to remove support for LTI 1.1. from MATLAB Grader. If and when LTI 1.1 is to be removed from MATLAB Grader, we will create a release note announcing the plans with instructions on how to migrate to LTI 1.3, and make every attempt to contact customers that are still actively using LTI 1.1 prior to removing support.
We strongly encourage our customers to update their implementations of MATLAB Grader to use LTI 1.3 today. LTI 1.1 is less secure and no longer supported or endorsed by the standards organization that created it (See: https://www.1edtech.org/lti-security-announcement-and-deprecation-schedule). Going forward, new features planned for MATLAB Grader will require LTI 1.3 and access to the related LTI Advantage services. If a customer has not upgraded their implementation to use LTI 1.3 they will not be able to take advantage of new features that require these services. All major commercially available LMS platforms support the LTI 1.3 standard, and many university-led or homegrown solutions support it as well. We strongly encourage our customers to reach out to their vendor of their LMS platform to get support in upgrading their LMS to a version that supports LTI 1.3.
Furthermore, any other products that integrate with an LMS (Online Courses, MATLAB Online) require LTI 1.3 as well, and do NOT support LTI 1.1. To take full advantage of all educator workflow tools from MathWorks for teaching MATLAB-enabled courses, an LMS that supports LTI 1.3 is required.
For other questions about our support for LTI standards, customers can reach out through tech support or contact the Product Manager for MATLAB Grader using the contact link at the bottom of this page: https://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab-grader.html
