How to load a sequence of images, to be accessed by IMAGESC

I want to load a sequence of images, of which this is the first one. What is wrong with this code so that I can't see the image? My goal is to load pic1(2,:,:,:), pic1(3,:,:,:), and so forth.

fp1 = 'B1.jpg';

pic1(1,:,:,:) = imread(fp1);

p1 = pic1(1,:,:,:);

imagesc(p1)
