Regenerative braking in a dc motor for a water pumping application.

Hi guys,
I am wondering whether you consider or not that there is any sense in implementing a regenerative braking function in a dc motor, which is employed in a water pumping application driven by pv solar energy and a battery. Would it make sense to implement this function for a water pumping system? I understand that this function is widely employed for hybrid or electric vehicles, but I have my doubts regarding a water pumping system.
Would this function worsen the final pumping process through a pipe?I have searched on the literature but have not found anything on this question. If you can cite any paper on this topic I would be glad to read it.
Kind regards
