extract images linked in kml and convert to local
Show older comments
I am working with some kml files similar to some publically available ones (linked here) NOAA KMZ Data Sample The KMZ/KML mainly links to publicly available imagery and loads it from the web. This is great if you're somewhere with fast wifi, not great if you're traveling or have firewall issues.
I am trying to find a way to load them once, and then scrape the content to create a local copy. Storage space is not an issue. I have the mapping toolbox. Is there something in general or in Matlab that would allow this?

Hello Justin,
Here are few steps which you can follow to load and store the extracted images locally onto your system:
- Use the "xmlread" function to load the KML file and apply the appropriate functions to extract the required data.
- Utilize the "websave" function to save the images by providing the respective URLs.
For more information on these functions please refer to the following documentations:
- “xmlread”: https://in.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/xmlread.html
- “websave”: https://in.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/websave.html
Hope this helps!
