So, I've installed my update (from 2010a -> 2011b, if it matters) and I've propagated (apparently only some of) my old "settings," (e.g., my command history and start-up window configuration) by simply copying the contents of my Application Data\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2010a to the similarly-located folder named 2011b (I put its existing contents in a new folder first), but that appears not to have imported my old search path tree--can anyone here tell me how to do that? Thanks!

I found it: pathdef.m in toolbox\local. Am I gonna break anything if I do with this what I did w/ Application Data\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2010a, i.e., save the existing contents of the new equivalent, then copy wholesale the contents of the old local into the new local? Thanks!
