raspberry pi simulink rotational stage

Dear all,
I want to create a raspberry pi controlled rotational stage using simulink.
The rotational stage should rotate continuously, and stop for 2 seconds at 4 predetermined angles. I want to create the embedded software with simulink and then just let it run for life on the raspberry pi.
My question: What are the things I should learn to successfully complete this mini-project?
I have excellent Matlab programming knowledge, basic simulink knowledge but little to no knowledge about electronics.
