How do I set command and editor icons that appear in windows alt-tab?

I use windwos alt-tab to flip between open windows in Windows 10. I also work with the Matlab "command" undocked to be able to flip between command and editor and (as they are generated) figures. Until recently the editor and command window had different icons showing in the alt-tab strip: now they are the same (the orange Matlab icon) although figures retain a different icon. This is frustrating as I frequently re-open the wrong window after viewing a figure. Can I chose what icons appear here? NB I also revert to 'old style' alt-tab, which specifically uses icons, rather than a modern mini-version of the window (search for "how-bring-back-old-alt-tab-experience-windows-10" if this is not clear).
Searching for variations on "icon + editor" etc repeatedly focuses on an editor for desiging icons...
thanks in advance

Hi Philip,
As per my understanding, you want to distinguish between the windows by viewing different icons for different windows.
In Windows 10, the icons displayed in the "alt+tab" switcher are determined by the application itself and cannot be directly customized by the user. However, there are a few workarounds you can try to improve the differentiation between the MATLAB Editor and the MATLAB Command Window:
  • Pin the MATLAB Command Window to the taskbar and switch the windows by pressing "windows key+number" and avoid using "alt+tab". For example, "windows key+1" will switch to the first taskbar item.
  • Alternatively, you can use virtual desktops. Windows 10 allows you to create and switch between multiple virtual desktops. You can assign the MATLAB Editor to one virtual desktop and the MATLAB Command Window to another. This way, you can switch between them using the "windows key+ctrl+left/right arrow".
I hope this helps!
