Command window unresponsive after CMD-0 shortcut

I’m on a Mac, and the CMD-0 shortcut has become useless. When I switch to the command window in this way, almost none of my keystrokes register. For instance, if I’m in the editor and then press CMD-0 , my cursor switches command window but nothing shows up if I type anything. The up and down arrows still work to cycle through my command history, but then if I press enter to execute one of the commands nothing happens. It still responds to some shortcuts like CMD-K and CMD-F. Pressing up and down in the command window also seems to scroll in the editor window.
Thanks for your help,
Sam
