How to show variables in output when publishing code?

I want to show a variable that I have in my workspace in the output when publishing my code, and I'm getting an undefined variable error when publishing. The variable is saved in a workspace that is loaded at the beginning of the code...and i want the user to be able to see that variable as an illustrative example.
