[n,p]=uigetfile('*.*');
a=imread([p,n]);
[n1,p1]=uigetfile('*.*');
b=imread([p1,n1]);
[n2,p2]=uigetfile('*.*');
c=imread([p2,n2]);
cell{1} = a;

See the second example in the FAQ http://matlab.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#How_can_I_process_a_sequence_of_files.3F
I see no reason to save the images in a cell array. Just display them and process them inside the loop and don't bother saving them for later. It just takes up memory that you probably don't need to do.
