B&R Develops Virtual Sensor Technology to Improve Servo Drive Performance
Dr. Engelbert Grünbacher, Bernecker + Rainer Industrie-Elektronik
B&R developed virtual sensor technology to counteract vibrations in drive systems caused by high production speeds and the use of inexpensive materials.
The classical positioning mode of drive systems using a motor encoder either causes vibrations on the load or results in poor performance. Increasing drive system performance requires an improved control strategy, which in many cases is associated with additional sensors and thus also with additional costs. B&R developed a concept based on virtual sensor technology to suppress vibrations without any physical sensors.
Using Model-Based Design with MATLAB® and Simulink®, B&R quickly and efficiently applied their ideas and successfully implemented the overall concept.
