Description

HEBI Robotics actuator modules, including the X-Series Actuators and S-Series Actuators, enable engineers, researchers, and industrial integrators to quickly and easily create world-class custom robots of any configuration. These actuators are packed with sensors that enable controllable position, velocity, and sensitive torque control, as well as three-axis inertial measurement.  Each module is a series-elastic actuator that integrates a brushless motor, gear train, spring, encoders, and control electronics into a compact package; this package runs on anything from 18V-50V DC and communicates using standard 10/100Mbps Ethernet.

HEBI Robotics actuator modules are designed to function as full-featured robotic components, as opposed to a simple servo motor. The output rotates continuously, requires no calibration or homing on start up, and contains a thru-bore for easy daisy chaining and wiring. This enables modules to be used in everything from wheeled robots to multi degree-of-freedom collaborative robotic arms.

HEBI provides cross-platform software tools that make configuring and controlling actuators simple, with features such as live plotting, and APIs for MATLAB®, ROS, and C/C++.

HEBI hardware can be controlled via the MATLAB command line with the HEBI API for MATLAB. The API lets you prototype directly on real hardware, without ever leaving the flexible and powerful MATLAB programming environment. The API provides several different levels of access to the hardware in order to cover the widest possible range of research projects and applications. Kinematics and trajectory APIs provide high-level control, similar to that of today's industrial robots. Joint-level control APIs allow complete control of each actuator's motion and tight integration of feedback from multiple actuators and external sensors. Lastly, a rich set of logging tools records data with virtually no overhead, and enables users to later analyze and visualize their data in MATLAB.
