Constrained full state feedback control system
Have you ever wondered why one of the most elegant control systems, namely the full state feedback system, is not very popular among practitioners? Why cascade controllers, less effective in terms of its ability to shape the dynamics of a closed loop system, are currently the industry standard? It's all about imposing constraints. All practical control systems are subject to physical constraints (limits) on the actuator and plant side. In the cascade controllers it is very straightforward to impose needed constraints. That is why they are the first-hand choice for most engineers. But now there is a better way! One can enjoy all the elegance of the full-state feedback control along with the required practicalities. Let me share with you our latest invention - a multithreaded controller. The complete solution is described in an open access paper:
M. Michalczuk, B. Ufnalski and L. M. Grzesiak, "Imposing Constraints in a Full-State Feedback System Using Multithreaded Controller," in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, doi: 10.1109/TIE.2020.3044778.
