Make a categorical scatter plot without overlapping markers, resulting in a cigar-shape. This type of plot is useful when you have too many points for a normal scatter plot, but too few to warrant a box plot (or you might simply not want to use one). The markers automatically resize when the figure size changes.
The result is similar to this plot: https://web.archive.org/web/20170511173615/http://www.bloodjournal.org/content/bloodjournal/117/3/928/F2.large.jpg?sso-checked=true
If you know what the official name of this type of plot is, please let me know.
Tested on R2012b and R2017a, so it should work on all releases.
This code is also compatible with Octave (tested on 4.2.0).
