I checked some previous news/reports related to accidents happening around the Bailadila mining area, and there are various types of accidents happening like:
- Floods and landslides
- Loss of vehicle control
- Slope collapse
- Earthquakes/ground movement
So maybe we can add sensors which can also help in detecting these situations and warning the vehicles/control room before something serious happens.
For example, sir asked us about rainfall parameters. We can add a rainfall sensor + water-level sensors to detect heavy rainfall and rising water levels and give an early flood warning to nearby vehicles and the control room.
Similarly:
- Landslides/slope collapse: soil moisture sensors + tilt/inclination sensors + ground vibration sensors can monitor changes in the slope and give an early warning.
- Earthquakes/ground movement: vibration/seismic sensors or accelerometers can detect abnormal ground movement and trigger warnings.
- Vehicle accidents/loss of control: IMU/accelerometer + GPS + speed/tilt sensors can detect sudden braking, abnormal tilt, possible rollover, etc., and send alerts.
- We can also place sensors at important locations to monitor road/environmental conditions and warn vehicles before they reach a dangerous area.
Then there is the cost-effective part mentioned in the PS.
Other teams will probably also consider these problems and add multiple sensors and programs anyway, so our main focus should be making the system affordable while still covering multiple hazards.
I checked the data we have for 2023–24, where Bailadila had around 62 hauling trucks. If our complete system costs around ₹3–5 lakh per truck, then:
₹3 lakh × 62 = ₹1.86 crore
₹5 lakh × 62 = ₹3.10 crore
So even if we deploy the system on all 62 trucks, the total cost would be around ₹1.86–3.10 crore.
And according to the estimated ₹50+ crore/day revenue figure we found for 2024–25:
₹1.86 crore is around 3.7% of one day's ₹50 crore revenue
₹3.10 crore is around 6.2% of one day's ₹50 crore revenue
So a ₹3–5 lakh system per truck seems reasonably practical considering the scale of the operation.
Basically, instead of making it only a vehicle-to-vehicle communication system, we can make it a multi-hazard monitoring + early-warning system for the mining area, covering rainfall/floods, landslides/slope collapse, ground movement and vehicle-related accidents, while keeping the system cost-effective.
