A simplified simulation of a centrifugal heart pump.
This interactive simulator provides users with a cursory introduction to several concepts in the design of Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs). The simulator allows users to modify parameters such as the diameter of the pump impellers and the speed of impeller rotation.
Users can observe how changing the LVAD parameters impacts the device’s performance. A plot is provided to show the relationship between output pressure and flow rate for a given pump configuration. A “target” for pressure and flow rate is provided. Users may modify this curve and the “target” by selecting special cases, such as pulmonary hypertension and activity level.
