Creates simulated outdoor shadows and pinhole images of the Sun (dappled light) from still and video images of real foliage.
Dappled light often noticed a forest is an underappreciated common phenomenon. This script explores dappled light by direct simulation based on user supplied images and video of foliage. It creates simulated shadows and pinhole images of the Sun (dappled light) from still and video images of real foliage by convolving the light source distribution with the changing distribution of apertures in the foliage. The resulting light is fused with an image of a custom surface to simulate its realistic appearance. This script is designed for a student of physics just learning computational methods and contains various "Try this" suggestions. The zip file contains a pdf and images and video to test.
