2D PDE can be solved using function : pdepe or by using old routines,
Take a look at my submission for beginning : http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/37923-2d-electric-potentialfield-in-parallel-plates-capacitor
Or this sophisticated submission : http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/35068-gui-2d-heat-transfer

MATLAB function pdepe can solve PDE in only one spatial dimension and time.
The PDE Toolbox can solve PDE in two spatial dimensions and can also include time as an independent variable.
