xr = [ ];
That is empty.
xrold=xr;
so that is empty.
xr= xr-x^iter/factorial(iter); %<--------------------------here?
empty minus anything would be empty.
You are passing in x, but if it is not a scalar, you need
xr = xr - x.^iter ./ factorial(iter);
