Writing software in MATLAB is useful or in C++

For example, if I want to analyse recorded flight data in the aircraft, how much is it economical to code in MATLAB.
If not why? What do you prefer?

Manu - you might find that the MATLAB newsgroup is a better place to hold an open discussion on a topic like this.
