Can ODE solvers produce different results when the MATLAB versions vary?

I'm trying to simulate a paper and am using an ode45 solver to solve the differential equations. However, the results that I get vary a bit. I asked the author of the paper and she replied that someone else also reported the same to her. Since the paper was published in 2006, I wonder if it is due to the odesolver that was present in MATLAB 2006 or prior versions.
Do you think that I should try downloading MATLAB 2006 and try re-running the code?

Running on 2006 version may be the only way to be sure. In general, it is not unusual to see differences in some function behavior among different versions. Some of these may be documented in the Release Notes. I would think that particularly true of versions separated by a decade or more.

Does the ode function happen to involve linear algebra such as the \ operator or svd or the like? Linear algebra has been improved several times.
