I have a data array 100 rows and 2000 columns. When I pick only 30 rows and 400 columns from the given array and plot with pcolor(filename);shading interp the resulting picture gives an impression of a stretched image.I think the default size of the plot window is the problem. I need help for understanding the problem so that I can plot the section with clear resolution.

To plot with the clear resolution check for axis scaling and appearence
pcolor() %pcolor(your array of cells)
axis equal tight
This would solve you and I hope there is no problem with plot window.
