Uninstalling Matlab R2015a and reinstalling Matlab R2015b seems to fix the problem. And .../codetools/ directory is back in place. Still not sure what could have caused the problem I mentioned in my initial question. I also made a full backup of the Win7-Ultimate hard drive, just in case.
why workspacefunc.m no longer accessible to matlab?

The following error message showed up in Matlab's command window, any idea why and how to correct it? ps . I also checked and there is no ...\matlab\codetools directory!
