How to find the missing trees in a citrus plantation?

I a several RGB images wherefrom i want to generate to layers
  1. The points of the citrus plants(yellow dots in the image)
  2. The points of the missing/gap citrus plants(magenta dots in the image)
Now I am using template matching in eCognition to identify the plants but I want help on how to identify the gaps in a row of citrus plants.
