Writing point clouds to LAS files with Extra Bytes Record

I want to write pointcloud data to a LAS file, but also include some extra information for each point. This requires adding a VLR of type 4 (the "Extra Bytes Record") which I can do with the addVLR function, but is there a command that writes the actual extra information to the file? I don't see anything in the documentation. It seems like it's not supported with 2023a, at least.

I found LASio in the file exchange which seems to do what I need, but I'd like to stick with Mathworks code if possible.
