Migrate Assessment Items from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3

Tip

LTI 1.1 will be removed in June 2026 because it is no longer supported by 1EdTech. Learners will no longer be able to access any assessment items created using an LTI 1.1 deployment.

If you are an instructor who has assessment items that are not part of active courses, simply create a new assessment item using an LTI 1.3 deployment and copy the content from the old assessment item. For more information, see Add MATLAB Grader Assessment Items to LMS Course.

To migrate an existing assessment item, including information about learner progress, from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3, follow the instructions on this page.

To preserve student data from an old assessment item that was created using an LTI 1.1 deployment, you can also download the data. For more information, see Download Submissions to Analyze Learning Outcomes. After LTI 1.1 has been removed, you will no longer be able to download student data from assessment items that still use LTI 1.1 deployments.

The details of the migration process, both how it is done and by whom it is done, depend on the LMS.

LMS Administrators: Link LTI 1.1 Consumer Key to LTI 1.3 Deployment

For some learning management systems, you must link the old LTI 1.1 consumer key to the new LTI 1.3 deployment before migrating your assessment items.

For example, you must link consumer keys for:

  • Moodle

You do not have to link consumer keys for:

  • Blackboard

  • Brightspace (D2L)

  • Canvas

Find LTI 1.1 Consumer Key

First, find the LTI 1.1 consumer keys associated with each MATLAB® Grader™ assessment item that needs to be migrated.

  1. Work with your instructors to determine which MATLAB Grader assessment items need to be migrated.

  2. Find out which LTI 1.1 deployments are used to integrate those assessment items.

  3. Follow the instructions for finding the associated LTI 1.1 consumer keys in your learning management system (LMS).

Link LTI 1.1 Consumer Key to LTI 1.3 Deployment

Next, choose an LTI 1.3 deployment. You can use an existing LTI 1.3 deployment or create a new one.

To create a new LTI 1.3 deployment, see Integrate LMS Using LTI. Under Register LMS information in MATLAB Grader, add the LTI 1.1 consumer key to the LTI 1.1 Consumer Key field.

To use an existing LTI 1.3 deployment, follow these steps.

  1. Sign in to MATLAB Grader at https://grader.mathworks.com and then click LMS Integration. Alternatively, you can access the page directly at https://grader.mathworks.com/lti_credentials.

  2. Find the LTI 1.3 deployment in the Deployments table and click the Edit icon .

  3. Add the LTI 1.1 consumer key to the LTI 1.1 Consumer Key field.

  4. Click Save.
